In Erie township streams, rivers and creeks like Rapideau Drain, Cousino
Drain, Creek, Bay, Flat Creek, Yetter Drain, Little Lake Creek, Ottawa River,
Halfway Creek have created an attractive atmosphere for the tourists and
visitors. Erie United Church has spread the holy air in the township. These all

General Information
The earlier name of Erie was 'Bay Settlement' and it remained till 1835. In
1835 in the supervision of Antoine LaFountain, a document from the United States
Post Office was received stating that the Post Office had officially changed the
name from Bay Settlement to Erie, Monroe County, Territory of Michigan. The
township has grown to a community of under population of 5000 and it anchors the
south-east corner of the state. It remains a large community who ruled with fine
orchards, many farms, and the sweetest corn available anywhere in the summer
months.
Demographic Information
Erie is a civil township of Monroe County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It
is located at 41°46'18?N 83°29'22?W and 584 feet above from the sea level. As
per the data of United States Census Bureau, Erie has a total area of 29.7
square miles (76.8 kmē), of which, 24.1 square miles (62.4 kmē) of it is land
and 5.6 square miles (14.4 kmē) of it (18.74%) is water. The latitude and the
longitude of Erie are 41.794N and -83.496W respectively.
In the year of 2000 the population of Erie was 4850. The households and
families residing in the township were 1,789 and 1,343 respectively. The
population density was 201.1 per square mile.
